Keep important stuff handy

Canoe Accessory Pocket-SMALL

Our “Keep it Handy” Side Accessory Pouch is a place for your go-to day-time essentials. Think sunscreen, bug dope, swim sandals, water bottles, rain gear. This might be the smaller of the two pouches, but it can still hold a surprising amount of stuff you need handy, e.g, 1L water bottle. You can quickly grab a drink and spritz on a little bug juice before starting the portage.

It fits on the barrel and canoe packs. It’s a great way to increase volume on our Aurora Day Pack or any pack that has side compression straps.

Ostrom Accessory Pouches Other Designs
Sleek Tapered Shape. A new design that is more stable on your barrel or pack. Tubular pouches tend to flop around and catch on things, wasting energy.
Grab and Go! These pouches can attach to the side compression straps on your pack using quick-release buckles. So you can quickly unsnap the pouch from the pack and take it to your tent or the beach. Force you to waste time undoing the compression strap and sliding the pouch off.

35 Years of Helping Paddlers Discover the Joys of Portaging

We’ve been canoe tripping with our families since we were kids. And got so fed up with uncomfortable canoe packs and nasty barrel harnesses that Bill just had to design a solution.

He first looked to backpack designs for inspiration. The result was:

  • the first-ever internal frame portage pack. (So impressive with heavy loads.)
  • the first barrel harness with a contoured foam back pad and Upper Adjustment. (Game changer!)
  • and the first to offer custom-fit … because carrying 50+ lbs in a one-size-fits-all pack is unnecessarily painful.

“It was a blast being the lead designer for the Canadian Armed Forces Rucksack and Small Pack
System. We used scientific research and field testing to fully understand how pack design impacts load carriage, load control and weight transfer. It dramatically changed my approach to design. Custom-sizing does matter.
