The RAD Tumpline is 50% wider than our TRAD(itional) Tump. This, combined with the u-shaped curve, helps spread out the weight and reduce pressure on your head. It's especially comfortable in the top-of-the-head position. Optional on our canoe packs and barrel harness.

RAD Tumpline

WIDE & CURVED - Reduces pressure on your head.

QUICK ADJUST - Simply pull forward on the red straps. (We saw this design first at Taylor Statten Camps 35 years ago.)

HI-TECH MATERIALS - A specific type of fleece that dries quickly so the tump doesn't get mouldy. Yuck!

QUICK ATTACH - Quickly attaches to 2 buckles beside the shoulder straps.

Check out our TRAD Tumpline if you prefer to use the tump across your forehead.

Made by Bill in Thunder Bay, Canada

Consider this...

Even though Indigenous Ecuadorians have used a tump for centuries...

It's important to be aware that your neck may not be up to the challenge of a rough portage.

Stay within your comfort zone and experiment.

Consider using the tump as an aid, along with the shoulder straps and hip belt.

Technical Specs

Our tumpline is made with materials specifically selected to repel moisture or dry quickly so they don’t stay wet and become mouldy.

  • Polartek 200 fleece lining is a high-quality fleece that is fast drying, and very soft on your forehead.
  • The lightweight vinyl outer does not absorb moisture.
  • Red nylon webbing to easily find your adjustment straps.

Our Inspiration

The RAD Tump is inspired by Bill's Dad, who introduced him to the outdoors and instilled a love of canoe tripping.

And by Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia, who introduced Bill (even though they never met) to outdoor ethics and rock climbing.

Both of these outdoors people used tumps to carry packs on radically different adventures.
